How to Repot an Avocado Tree
Repotting involves carefully removing the tree from its current container and transferring it to a larger pot with fresh soil. Follow these steps for best results:
Materials Needed
- New, slightly larger pot with drainage holes
- Well-draining potting mix suitable for avocado trees
- Watering can
- Trowel or small shovel
- Gloves (optional)
Steps for Repotting
1. Water the tree a day before repotting to reduce stress and make removal easier.
2. Carefully loosen the soil around the edges of the current pot using a trowel or your hands.
3. Gently lift the tree from the pot, supporting the root ball with your hands. If the tree is stubborn, tap the sides of the pot or run a knife around the edge.
4. Remove excess soil from around the roots and inspect for any damaged or rotten roots. Trim these with clean scissors.
